Vipers and Giants set the pace

Newcastle Vipers and Belfast Giants are level at the top of the fledgling Elite Ice Hockey League table after they both secured wins on Sunday night.

The Vipers clinched their second win in three games by beating Nottingham Panthers 5-3.

The Giants joined them on five points, albeit having played a game more, after they defeated reigning champions Sheffield Steelers 4-2.

In the Challenge Cup, Cardiff Devils kicked-off their campaign with a 5-2 win over Hull Stingrays.
